Promethazine Tips from Pharmacists

  • If you have gastrointestinal side effects from promethazine, taking it with food or milk may help lessen them.

  • If you are taking promethazine syrup, use a dose-measuring cup to ensure accurate dosing. Do not use a household spoon.

  • Store promethazine suppositories in the refrigerator. The oral syrup and tablets can be stored at room temperature.

  • You may feel dizzy or drowsy after taking promethazine. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything that requires your full attention until you know how this medicine affects you.

  • Make sure you tell your doctor about any history of seizures. Promethazine can lead to an increase in seizure frequency.
