Colestipol (Colestid) Side Effects
Possible side effects of colestipol are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice if these side effects are severe or persist after a few days when your body has had time to adjust to the medicine.
- Belching
- Gas
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Vomiting
Rarely, colestipol can cause more serious side effects. Call your healthcare professional right away or seek emergency medical attention if you develop:
- Signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction (skin rash, hives, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing)
- Unusual bleeding or bruising (bleeding gums, coughing up blood, blood in stool or urine)

Colestipol Overdose: In case of an overdose of colestipol, call your doctor immediately. You can also call the National Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. Call 911 if a person has collapsed, stopped breathing, stopped responding, or had a seizure.
