Levofloxacin Side Effects

Possible side effects of levofloxacin are listed below. Tell your doctor if these side effects are severe or persist after a few days:

• Stomach pain
• Heartburn 
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Constipation
• Vaginal discharge or vaginal itching

Rarely, levofloxacin can cause more serious adverse drug reactions. Contact your doctor for medical advice immediately or get emergency medical attention if you develop:

• Watery, bloody, foul-smelling, severe diarrhea with or without fever, and stomach cramps (this can occur up to 2 months or more after antibiotic treatment)
• Skin rash, hives, itching, peeling, or blistering skin
• Swelling of the face, eyes, lips, mouth, throat, hands, lower legs, ankles, or feet
• Cough that is persistent or worsening
• Hoarseness
• Throat tightness
• Difficulty breathing or swallowing
• Fainting or loss of consciousness
• Excessive thirst or hunger, sweating, shakiness, trembling, fast or irregular heartbeat, pale skin, frequent urination, anxiety
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, light-colored stools
• Sudden chest, back, or abdominal pain
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Seizures

Levofloxacin Overdose: In case of an overdose, call your doctor immediately. You can also call your local poison control center or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If a person cannot be awakened, has trouble breathing, has collapsed, or has had a seizure, call 911.
