Levofloxacin Tips from Pharmacists

  • Take levofloxacin exactly as prescribed. Do not change the dose, dosing frequency, or treatment duration without your doctor’s approval.

  • Finish the prescribed course of levofloxacin even if your symptoms are better.

  • You can take levofloxacin tablets with or without food. However, if you develop nausea or stomach upset, taking levofloxacin with food might help.

  • Use a dose-measuring device such as a cup or syringe to measure liquid medicine.

  • You should take the liquid medicine at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

  • Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while on levofloxacin.

  • Tell your doctor if you develop sudden pain in a tendon, muscle weakness, inability to bear weight on an affected part of your body, or hear a snapping sound (these could be signs of tendon problems such as tendinitis or tendon rupture).

  • Stay well hydrated while on levaquin to lower your risk of kidney problems.

  • If you have diabetes, talk to your doctor about how often you should monitor blood glucose levels during levofloxacin treatment.

  • Take levofloxacin at least 2 hours away from antacids and sucralfate.
