Valtrex (valacyclovir) tips from pharmacists
Valtrex works best if you take it at the first sign of an outbreak. If you have recurrent herpes outbreaks, it might help to have a prescription available at your local pharmacy or a course of the medication available at home.
While Valtrex can reduce the transmission of genital herpes, it does not eliminate the risk completely, so you should still use protection such as condoms.
To protect against kidney damage, stay well hydrated while taking Valtrex.
An oral suspension can be prepared from the tablet. You should store the prepared oral suspension in the refrigerator and discard it after 28 days.
