Esterified Estrogens and Methyltestosterone Uses
Esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone are used for the treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms, such as hot flashes and night sweats, in menopausal women who do not respond to estrogens alone.
Note that this combination of hormones has not been found to help with nervous symptoms such as depression.
There may be other uses of esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.
Esterified Estrogens and Methyltestosterone Mechanism of Action
Esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone work by replacing natural hormones in the body.
Esterified Estrogens and Methyltestosterone Doses
This medication comes in the form of tablets containing esterified estrogens 1.25 mg and methyltestosterone 2.5 mg. The half-strength tablets contain esterified estrogens 0.625 mg and methyltestosterone 1.25 mg.
Your doctor will prescribe the lowest dose that can control symptoms. They will reevaluate you every 3-6 months to see if they can lower the dose or discontinue the medicine. Your provider will discontinue treatment as soon as you meet the treatment goals.
Treatment with esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone is cyclical (3 weeks on and 1 week off). The usual dose is 1 tablet of the 1.25 mg/2.5 mg or 1-2 tablets of the 0.625 mg/1.25 mg strength daily.
