How To Use Ketotifen (Zaditor)

Read the package insert or prescription label carefully and use ketotifen as directed. Do not use more of the medicine or use it more often than recommended.

To instill the eye drops:

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water.
  2. Before instilling the eye drops, make sure that the dropper tip is not damaged.
  3. Do not touch the tip to any surface, including your finger or eye.
  4. Tilt your head backward, gently pull your lower eyelid down, and form a small pocket with your index finger. Place your other fingers on your face for support.
  5. While looking up, place the medicine into the pocket, taking care not to touch the surface of the eye with the tip of the dropper.
  6. Gently close your eye for 2-3 minutes with your head bent toward the floor. Avoid blinking or squeezing your eyelid.
  7. Apply gentle pressure on the inner corner of the eye.
  8. Replace the cap on the bottle. Do not rinse or wipe the dropper tip.
  9. Wipe excess liquid with a tissue.
  10. Wait at least 5 minutes before using any other eye drops.

Note: If you wear contact lenses, remove them before instilling ketotifen eye drops. Wait at least 10 minutes before reinserting the contact lenses after the use of the medicine.

Missed dose: If you forget a dose of ketotifen, use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and use the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store ketotifen eye drops in their original container, tightly closed, at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Do not store medications in the bathroom, where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused or expired ketotifen should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw ketotifen in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded ketotifen is through your local waste disposal company or a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal
