What are Lexapro (escitalopram) side effects?

Common side effects of Lexapro are listed below. Call your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away.

  • Nausea, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain
  • Insomnia (problems falling asleep or staying asleep)
  • Changes in sex drive or ejaculation problems
  • Fatigue
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Sweating
  • Heartburn
  • Drowsiness
  • Appetite and weight changes
  • Flu-like symptoms (runny nose, sneezing)

Some of the adverse effects of Lexapro can be more serious. Call your doctor without delay if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • Rash, hives, blisters, itchy skin
  • Hallucinations
  • Fever, sweating, confusion, fast heartbeat
  • Abnormal bruising or bleeding
  • Problems with thinking, concentration, or memory
  • Seizures
  • Eye pain, swelling around the eyes, vision changes

Lexapro Overdose: In case of a known or suspected Lexapro overdose, call your doctor right away. If a person cannot be awakened, has had a seizure, or has trouble breathing, call 911 immediately. Symptoms of Lexapro overdose can include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, fast or pounding heartbeat, loss of consciousness, and seizures.
