How To Use Acetaminophen-Codeine

Acetaminophen-codeine comes in the form of a tablet or oral solution to take by mouth every 4 hours as needed to relieve mild to moderate pain. 

Read the prescription label carefully and take the medicine exactly as prescribed. If you have severe pain despite treatment with this medicine, talk to your doctor. Do not increase the dosage or dosage frequency or adjust the duration of treatment without your healthcare provider’s consent.

If you have been on acetaminophen and codeine for some time, do not stop the medication suddenly, as this can lead to unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Your healthcare provider will tell you how to gradually lower the dose.

Missed dose: Acetaminophen-codeine is taken as needed to relieve pain. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store acetaminophen-codeine at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused acetaminophen-codeine should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw leftover opioid medication in the trash or flush it down the toilet.
