How to use Adderall (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine)

Follow the directions on your prescription label for the correct Adderall dosage and frequency. Do not take more or less than the prescribed dose or take the medicine more or less frequently than prescribed.

You may take Adderall with water first thing in the morning, with or without food. 

If you are instructed to take Adderall more than once a day, you should take the first dose on awakening, then one or two more doses may be taken during the day, 4 to 6 hours apart. Avoid taking Adderall in the late evening to avoid insomnia. 

Adderall can cause a significant elevation in blood levels of corticosteroids, thus, can cause inaccurate results with some blood tests. Tell all your doctors that you are taking this medication. 

Your doctor may do regular check-ups of the heart, blood, and blood pressure to monitor heart-related problems.

If your child is taking Adderall, their height and weight must be checked often while taking Adderall. 

Adderall is a schedule II controlled substance; this means it can cause psychological or physical dependence and has the potential for abuse and misuse. Selling or giving away this medicine is against the law.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of Adderall, take the medicine as soon as you remember, but not late in the day. Skip the missed dose if it is in the late evening. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Adderall at room temperature (between 15-30 C or 59-86 F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Discard any expired or unused Adderall. Do not flush the medicine down the toilet. The best way to dispose of medicines is through a medication take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
