How To Use Altreno
Apply Altreno lotion to affected skin once daily at bedtime for treatment of acne vulgaris.
Read the FDA-approved patient labeling and patient information leaflet carefully. Use Altreno lotion exactly as prescribed. Do not use a larger amount of topical tretinoin products or use them more frequently than prescribed without your doctor’s approval.
Here are the steps to use Altreno:
- Wash your hands and the affected area with mild soap and water. Avoid using cleansers that are abrasive or have a drying effect.
- Wait 20-30 minutes and allow your skin to dry completely before applying Altreno.
- Apply a thin layer of Altreno (tretinoin) on the affected area only.
- Use moisturizer as directed by your doctor to reduce skin dryness. Brand name Altreno contains hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and collagen to support skin hydration and overall health.
- Do not allow Altreno to get into your eyes, ears, nose, mouth, or vagina.
- Do not use Altreno on eczematous or sunburned skin.
- You can apply Altreno under makeup.
Altreno (tretinoin) can help to control acne vulgaris but does not cure the condition. You may notice worsening of your acne (skin redness and scaling) for the first 7-10 days. It can take 2-4 weeks and up to 6 weeks of regular Altreno use before you get noticeable improvement in your acne.
If you are using tretinoin for fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and rough texture of skin, it can take 3-4 months or longer to notice an improvement. The improvements may slowly go away if you stop using the tretinoin product.
Do not use any other medicated products for skin problems unless approved by your healthcare provider. Specifically, avoid products (perfumes, astringents, shaving lotions) that contain menthol, alcohol, spices, or lime, as these can cause stinging and burning, especially when you first start using Altreno (tretinoin). The brand name Altreno (tretinoin) is alcohol, silicone, and fragrance-free. It is not a combination product and contains only tretinoin as the active ingredient.
Avoid using other topical medications, such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid (wart removal products), hair removers, and resorcinol or sulfur-containing dandruff shampoos unless approved by your healthcare provider. If you are using these products, ask your doctor how long you should wait before starting tretinoin treatment.
Missed dose: If you miss an application of Altreno (tretinoin), apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not apply extra medicine to make up for a missed application.
Storage: Store Altreno at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in its original container, tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.
Unused medicine: Unused and expired Altreno (tretinoin lotion) should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to it. Do not throw Altreno in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded Altreno is through a drug take-back program or your local waste disposal company.
