Amlodipine Olmesartan (Azor) Uses
Amlodipine olmesartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Hypertension can cause damage to many organs in the body and is a major risk factor for heart disease, heart attack, stroke, cardiovascular death, and kidney failure.
The two blood pressure medicines, amlodipine, and olmesartan, have an additive antihypertensive effect. Your doctor may prescribe this combination if one medication alone is not successful in controlling high blood pressure. Combination medications are also used when either medication causes dose-limiting side effects. For example, if you develop bothersome side effects on amlodipine or olmesartan alone, your doctor may prescribe a combination of amlodipine and olmesartan at lower doses.
There may be other uses of amlodipine olmesartan—your pharmacist or doctor can give you further drug information.
Amlodipine Olmesartan (Azor) Mechanism of Action
Amlodipine works on the heart and blood vessels. It relaxes blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. It also increases blood and oxygen supply to the heart and reduces the workload of the heart.
Olmesartan blocks the action of a natural substance in the body that causes tightening or narrowing of the blood vessels. It helps in lowering blood pressure by relaxing or widening blood vessels.
