How To Use Armodafinil (Nuvigil)

Take armodafinil (Nuvigil) tablets by mouth with water. If you are taking this medication for excessive sleepiness caused by sleep apnea or narcolepsy, you should take it in the morning. If you are taking armodafinil for sleep difficulties related to shift work, take it 1 hour before your work shift starts. Try to take your medicine at around the same time every day. Talk with your doctor about when to take armodafinil if your work shift does not start at the same time every day.

Armodafinil can be habit-forming. Read the prescription label carefully and follow your doctor’s dosing instructions. Do not change the dose or dosing frequency of this drug without your doctor’s approval.

Armodafinil can help to control excessive sleepiness, but it does not cure the underlying condition. Continue taking the medication even if your excessive sleepiness is improved. Do not discontinue this medicine without talking with your doctor first.

Remember that armodafinil is not a substitute for good sleep habits. Make sure you get enough restful sleep. Talk with your doctor about how to naturally promote good sleep. Use your CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine or other devices as prescribed for sleep apnea.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of armodafinil, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take more than a single dose at one time to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused armodafinil should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw armodafinil in the trash or flush it down the toilet.
