Aspirin Side Effects
Possible side effects of aspirin are listed below. Call your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away in a few days.
- Nausea and vomiting
- Heartburn
- Stomach pain
Some of the adverse effects of aspirin can be more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Skin rash, hives, itching, or other signs of allergic reactions
- Swelling of the eyes, face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Rapid breathing
- Rapid heartbeat
- Blood in the vomit or coffee grounds vomit
- Cold, clammy skin
- Ringing in the ears
- Hearing loss
- Bright red blood in the stools
- Black or tarry stools
The above list may not include all the potential side effects of aspirin. Tell your doctor if the side effects are unusual, severe, or persistent. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Aspirin Overdose: In case of an overdose of aspirin, call your doctor immediately. You can also call the local poison control center or national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If a person has trouble breathing, cannot be awakened, or has had a seizure, call 911. Aspirin overdose symptoms may include burning throat or stomach pain, fever, decreased urination, restlessness, irritability, nervousness, dizziness, confusion, double vision, uncontrolled shaking, abnormal excitement, excessive talking or saying things that do not make sense, hallucinations, seizures, drowsiness, and loss of consciousness.
