How To Use Atenolol Chlorthalidone (Tenoretic 50)
Atenolol and chlorthalidone come in the form of an oral tablet to take by mouth once daily. You can take this medicine with or without food. Try to take your medicine at the same time every day. This will help maintain consistent plasma drug levels and also help you remember to take your medicine regularly.
Read the prescription label carefully and take the medicine exactly as prescribed. Do not change the dose or dosing frequency without talking to your healthcare provider.
Your provider will likely start you on Tenoretic 50 (atenolol 50 mg and chlorthalidone 25 mg) once daily, and if needed, increase it to Tenoretic 100 (atenolol 100 mg and chlorthalidone 25 mg) once daily. If you do not achieve sufficient blood pressure control on this fixed-dose combination drug, your provider may add another antihypertensive agent.
Atenolol and chlorthalidone can control hypertension but will not cure the underlying condition. Continue taking your blood pressure medicine regularly even if you feel well and your blood pressure readings at home are normal. Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your healthcare provider.
Missed dose: If you miss a dose of atenolol and chlorthalidone, take it as soon as you remember.
