Azelaic Acid (Finacea) Side Effects

Possible side effects of azelaic acid are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice if these side effects are severe or do not go away in a few days after your body adjusts to the medicine.

  • Burning
  • Stinging
  • Tingling
  • Itching
  • Dry skin
  • Discomfort or tenderness

Azelaic acid can also cause more serious side effects. Stop using azelaic acid and call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you develop the following serious symptoms:

  • Skin rash, hives, itching
  • Swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, or throat
  • Hoarseness
  • Trouble swallowing or breathing

Azelaic acid (Finacea) Overdose: In case someone swallows azelaic acid, call your health care professional or seek medical help immediately. You can also call your local poison control center, provincial poison control center, or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If a person cannot be awakened, has trouble breathing, has collapsed, or has had a seizure, call 911.
