Benztropine Mesylate Side Effects
Possible adverse effects of benztropine are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice if they are severe or do not go away in a few days.
- Anticholinergic adverse effects such as dry mouth
- Gastrointestinal adverse reactions (acid reflux, nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite)
- Pain or difficulty while urinating
- Decreased sexual ability
Benztropine can also cause some very serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you develop:
- Signs of an allergic reaction (skin rash, hives, itching, swelling)
- Fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
- Fever
- Vision changes
- Depression
- Confusion
- Hallucinations or delusions

Benztropine Overdose: In case of an overdose, call your doctor immediately. You can also call your local poison control center, provincial poison control center, or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Call 911 if someone has lost consciousness, collapsed, is not breathing, or has had a seizure. Overdose symptoms may include nervousness, excitement, confusion, hallucinations, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, muscle weakness, rapid heartbeat, upset stomach, vomiting, problems with swallowing, pain with urination, headache, rash, dry, hot or flushed skin, heat stroke, heartburn, blood in vomit, constipation, seizures, and coma.
