Betamethasone Dipropionate Tips from Pharmacists

  • Use betamethasone dipropionate exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use it at a higher dose, for a longer period, on other parts of the body, or to treat other skin conditions without your doctor’s approval. Potent corticosteroids like betamethasone can cause serious adverse effects if not used properly.

  • Wash your hands after applying betamethasone dipropionate.

  • Do not get the topical cream into your eyes or mouth. Avoid using topical corticosteroids in sensitive areas like the groin or armpits.

  • Do not use other topical corticosteroids during treatment with betamethasone dipropionate without your doctor’s approval. This can increase your risk of side effects.

  • Shake the bottle of Sernivo betamethasone dipropionate spray well before use. Discard the bottle 4 weeks after opening it.

  • Betamethasone valerate foam is used to treat scalp conditions like seborrhea and psoriasis. This foam is flammable. Keep it away from open flames, cigarettes, and heat sources.

  • Tell your provider immediately if you become pregnant while using betamethasone dipropionate. The augmented forms of this medication and the Sernivo spray can cause low birth weight in babies if used during the pregnancy.
