Bisoprolol and Hydrochlorothiazide Uses

Bisoprolol and Hydrochlorothiazide Mechanism of Action
Bisoprolol belongs to a group of drugs called cardioselective beta blockers. It relaxes blood vessels and slows the heart rate to lower blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide increases the removal of salt and water from the body through the kidneys, helping to lower blood pressure. These two medications have an additive antihypertensive effect.
Bisoprolol and Hydrochlorothiazide Doses
Bisoprolol and hydrochlorothiazide combination is available as tablets in the following doses:
- Bisoprolol 2.5 mg & hydrochlorothiazide 6.25 mg tablet
- Bisoprolol 5 mg & hydrochlorothiazide 6.25 mg tablet
- Bisoprolol 10 mg & hydrochlorothiazide 6.25 mg tablet
Treatment is usually started with the lowest dose, one bisoprolol 2.5 mg & hydrochlorothiazide 6.25 mg tablet once daily. The dose may be increased every 2 weeks up to a maximum recommended dose of bisoprolol 20 mg & hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg, i.e., two bisoprolol 10 mg & hydrochlorothiazide 6.25 mg tablets per day.
