Brompheniramine-Pseudoephedrine-Dextromethorphan is a combination medicine used to treat cough, nasal congestion, sneezing, and watery eyes caused by allergies or the common cold. This medication will not treat an infection.

There may be other uses of brompheniramine-pseudoephedrine-dextromethorphan—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.

Brompheniramine-Pseudoephedrine-Dextromethorphan Mechanism of Action

It is a combination of three drugs (brompheniramine-pseudoephedrine-dextromethorphan) that act together to provide relief to cough and nasal congestion symptoms caused by allergies or the common cold. Brompheniramine belongs to a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. These symptoms include red, itchy, irritated, watery eyes; sneezing; and runny nose occurring due to allergies or the common cold. Pseudoephedrine belongs to a class of medications called nasal decongestants. Dilated blood vessels can cause nasal congestion (stuffy nose). The medication causes the blood vessels in the nasal passages to constrict, thus relieving nasal congestion and clearing the sinuses as well. Dextromethorphan belongs to a class of medications called antitussives or cough suppressants. It functions by reducing activity in the area of the brain responsible for coughing, thus reducing the body’s cough reflex.

This combination of three drugs works together to provide relief to your allergy or common cold symptoms. Although this medication aids in symptom control, it does not speed up recovery or treat the underlying cause of the symptoms.
