Budesonide Tips from Pharmacists

• If you are taking budesonide delayed release capsules or budesonide controlled ileal release (CIR) capsules, make sure you swallow the capsules whole. Do not split, crush, or chew them.

• If you are on Entocort EC or generic budesonide, you can open the capsule and mix the contents with some applesauce. Swallow the mixture within 30 minutes and follow it up with a glass of water.

• Do not drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit while on budesonide. This can increase blood levels of the medicine and cause serious side effects.

• Budesonide can increase your risk of getting infections. Call your doctor without delay if you develop fever, sore throat, cough, or other signs of infection.
