Carisoprodol (Soma) Tips from Pharmacists

  • Participate in physical therapy and take other pain relief measures along with carisoprodol administration. This will help to speed up recovery from painful musculoskeletal conditions.

  • Carisoprodol (Soma) is for short-term use only (up to three weeks). Do not take this medicine for more than 2-3 weeks. Ask your doctor for other treatment options if you continue to have muscle spasms and discomfort after 3 weeks of taking carisoprodol.

  • You can take carisoprodol tablets with or without food. Try to take your medicine at around the same time every day.

  • Carisoprodol can cause drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or doing anything that requires your full focus and concentration until you know how it affects you.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol while on carisoprodol (Soma) as it can make side effects worse.

  • Tell your doctor if you want to come off carisoprodol. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly as this can lead to unpleasant withdrawal effects.
