Cefdinir Uses

Cefdinir is used to treat bacterial infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, strep throat, skin infections, and otitis media (middle ear infections).

Note that cefdinir is an antibiotic. It is used to treat known or strongly suspected bacterial infections. An antibiotic is not effective against a fungal or viral infection. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics can increase the risk of future infections that are resistant to antibiotic treatment.

There may be other uses of cefdinir. Your doctor or pharmacist can give you further cefdinir drug information.

Cefdinir Mechanism of Action

Cefdinir works by interfering with cell wall synthesis and thereby killing bacteria.

Cefdinir Doses

Cefdinir is available as 300 mg capsules and 125 mg/5 mL or 250 mg/5 mL oral suspension.

The usual dose of cefdinir in adults and children over the age of 12 years is 300 mg every 12 hours. The dose of cefdinir in a child or infant taking liquid cefdinir depends on the child’s body weight. Children under the age of 12 years are usually given 7-14 mg of cefdinir per kilogram of body weight per day.
