How To Use Cefpodoxime

Cefpodoxime proxetil comes in the form of a tablet and liquid suspension that can be taken by mouth. You should take the tablet form with food. Cefpodoxime oral suspension can be taken with or without food. Try to take the medicine at evenly spaced times every 12 hours. Shake the oral suspension well before use.

Read the prescription label and patient information leaflet carefully and follow your doctor’s dosing instructions. Do not change the dose, dosing frequency, or treatment duration unless your doctor tells you.

You should start to feel better after taking cefpodoxime for a few days. Tell your doctor if you feel the antibiotic has made your symptoms worse. Do not skip doses or stop taking the antibiotic until you finish the prescribed course, even if you feel better and your symptoms are gone. Stopping treatment too soon can cause your infection to come back and become harder to treat in the future.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of cefpodoxime, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store cefpodoxime tablets at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in its original container, tightly closed. Store the liquid medicine in the refrigerator and discard any unused medicine after 14 days. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Throw away any unused or expired cefpodoxime by disposing of it in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to it. Do not throw cefpodoxime in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded cefpodoxime is through a drug take-back program or your local waste disposal company.
