  • Cephalexin is effective against many types of bacterial infections.
  • This antibiotic can be used in children as young as 1 year old.
  • It is available in a lower-cost generic version.
  • There is a liquid suspension for children or adults who have trouble swallowing pills.

  • You need to take cephalexin up to 4 times a day.
  • This antibiotic is not the best choice for people with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to cephalosporins or beta lactam antibiotics (penicillins).
  • Cephalexin may not be safe for people with kidney problems or gastrointestinal diseases.
