Cevimeline Uses

Cevimeline is used to treat dry mouth in patients with an autoimmune disorder called Sjögren’s syndrome. In people with this condition, the immune system mistakenly attacks the exocrine glands that secrete moisture in the mouth, eyes, and other parts of the body, resulting in dry mouth, dry eyes, and other symptoms.

There may be other uses of cevimeline—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.

Cevimeline Mechanism of Action

Cevimeline is a cholinergic agonist. It triggers secretions from exocrine glands, such as the salivary glands in the mouth, thereby increasing the amount of saliva and reducing the symptoms of dry mouth.

Cevimeline Doses

Cevimeline comes in the form of a 30-mg capsule. The usual dose of cevimeline in adults with dry mouth caused by Sjogren’s syndrome is 30 mg three times a day.
