Uses
What is Chlorhexidine used for?
Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate 0.12%) is a prescription mouthwash that provides antimicrobial activity during oral rinsing. It is used to treat periodontal disease, specifically gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and gingival bleeding (gum bleeding). It may help ease symptoms of mouth ulcers (sores inside the mouth).
There may be other uses of chlorhexidine gluconate — your healthcare professional or pharmacist can provide medical advice and give you more chlorhexidine drug information.
Chlorhexidine Mechanism of Action
Chlorhexidine affects the oral microbial ecosystem by slowing bacterial growth and killing bacteria. Studies on clinical effectiveness have shown that using chlorhexidine for 6 months can significantly reduce the counts of plaque bacteria in the mouth.
What is the dosage of Chlorhexidine?
