Chlorthalidone Side Effects
Common side effects of chlorthalidone are listed below. Tell your doctor if they are severe or do not go away in a few days.
- Increased urination
- Dizziness
- Extreme thirst
- Muscle weakness
- Muscle cramps
- Headache
- Stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach, loss of appetite
- Hair loss
- Sensitivity to the sun
Some of the side effects of chlorthalidone are more serious. Rarely the medication can cause an allergic reaction. Contact your healthcare provider right away or seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of allergic reactions:
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Sore throat, fever
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
- Severe skin rash
The above list may not include all the potential side effects of chlorthalidone. Call your doctor if you have any unusual side effects or if your side effects do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Chlorthalidonel Overdose: In case of a known or suspected overdose of chlorthalidone, call your doctor immediately, call the local poison control center, or call the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If a person has collapsed, cannot breathe, or has had a seizure, call 911. Symptoms of a chlorthalidone overdose may include nausea, weakness, dizziness, and electrolyte imbalance.
