Chlorthalidone Uses

Chlorthalidone is a prescription medicine used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and fluid retention caused by various medical conditions such as heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and kidney dysfunction.

Chlorthalidone Mechanism of Action

Chlorthalidone works by helping the kidneys eliminate excess water and salt from the body in the urine.

Chlorthalidone Doses

Chlorthalidone is available as 25 mg and 50 mg oral tablets. When it is used as an antihypertensive drug, the usual initial doses of chlorthalidone are 25 mg to 50 mg once a day with a maximum dose of 100 mg per day. When it is used to decrease swelling, the dose of chlorthalidone ranges from 25 mg to 100 mg once daily.
