Ciprofloxacin and Dexamethasone (Ciprodex) Uses

Your health care professional may prescribe the combination of ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone to treat an outer ear canal infection (acute otitis externa or swimmer’s ear). This medicine is also used to treat middle ear infections (acute otitis media) in children 6 months of age and older who have had ear tubes (tympanostomy tubes) placed surgically.

Remember, antibiotics do not treat fungal infections or viral infections such as herpes simplex infections. Your healthcare provider will prescribe ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone ear drops only if you have a bacterial infection in the affected ear.

There may be other uses of ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.
