Side Effects
Clobetasol (Clobex) Side Effects
Possible side effects of clobetasol applied topically are listed below. Tell your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away in a few days.
- Dry skin
- Itching
- Burning or irritation or redness of the skin
- Acne
- Skin discoloration
- Rash or tiny red bumps around the mouth
- Red or small white bumps on the skin
- Shining skin
- Red or purple lines or blotches under the skin
- Thinning skin with easy bruising
- Fragile skin
Rarely, clobetasol can also cause more serious adverse reactions. Stop using clobetasol and call your doctor right away or seek immediate medical attention if you experience:
- Redness, swelling, or oozing pus or other signs of skin infection in the area of application
- Numbness of fingers and tenderness in the elbow
- Severe skin rash and other signs of an allergic reaction
- Skin sores
- Changes in the fat distribution around the body
- Sudden increase in weight
- Vision changes
- Unusual tiredness
- Weakness in muscles
- Irritable behavior
- Depression
The above list may not include all the potential adverse effects of clobetasol. Contact your doctor if the side effects are unusual or severe or if they do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Clobetasol Overdose: In case someone swallows a topical formulation of clobetasol, contact your doctor immediately. You can also call your local poison control center or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If a person cannot be awakened, has trouble breathing, has collapsed, or has had a seizure, call 911.
