How To Use Codeine-Guaifenesin

Take codeine-guaifenesin by mouth every 4 hours as needed. You can take this medicine with or without food. 

Use a dosing cup or syringe to measure liquid medicine accurately. Rinse the dose-measuring device after every use. Do not use a household spoon as this can result in wrong dosing. 

Read the prescription label carefully and take codeine-guaifenesin exactly as prescribed. Do not take a higher dose or take the medicine more frequently than advised by your healthcare professional. Taking this medicine for longer than prescribed can lead to tolerance (you will get less cough relief over time). 

If you have been taking codeine-guaifenesin for a long time, do not stop taking it suddenly as this can lead to life-threatening withdrawal symptoms. Your healthcare provider will tell you how to lower the dose gradually.

Missed dose: This medicine is usually taken as needed. If your doctor has advised you to take it on schedule and you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store codeine-guaifenesin at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused codeine-guaifenesin should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them.
