Codeine-Guaifenesin Side Effects
Possible side effects of codeine-guaifenesin are listed below. Call your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away in a few days.
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Stomach pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
Rarely, codeine-guaifenesin can cause more serious side effects. Stop taking the medicine and call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical attention if you experience the following serious signs and symptoms:
- Skin rash, hives, itching (signs of allergic reactions)
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Noisy breathing or shallow breathing
- Changes in heartbeat
- Severe dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite
- Agitation, hallucinations, sweating, shivering, fever, confusion, fast heartbeat, severe muscle stiffness, muscle twitching, loss of coordination
- Little or no urinating
- Problems getting or keeping an erection
- Irregular menstruation
- Decreased libido (sexual desire)
- Changes in vision
- Seizures

Codeine-guaifenesin Overdose: In case of an overdose, get emergency medical help. Contact your doctor or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If a person has trouble breathing, cannot be awakened, or has had a seizure, call 911. Codeine overdose symptoms may include excessive drowsiness, dizziness, slow or shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, unresponsiveness, fainting, loss of muscle tone, and cold and clammy skin.
