How To Use Combipatch
Combipatch comes in the form of a transdermal system (skin patch) to be applied every 3-4 days (twice per week). Choose two days of the week when you are going to change the patch and be consistent in doing so each week on the same two days.
Apply Combipatch on an area of clean, dry, smooth skin (without folds) on your lower abdomen. Do not apply it on breast skin or near the breasts. Avoid applying the patch on damaged, irritated, or oily skin. Avoid areas with cuts or rashes. Also, avoid the waistline where clothing can rub on the patch and affect medication delivery. Rotate between the application sites and wait at least one week before using the same site again.
Read the prescription label and patient information leaflet carefully. Use Combipatch exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change the dosage strength or application frequency without your doctor’s approval.
Steps to apply and remove Combipatch:
- Open the foil pouch and remove one side of the protective liner. Avoid touching the adhesive with your fingers.
- Apply the Combipatch immediately to clean, dry, smooth skin on your lower abdomen.
- Remove the other side of the protective liner.
- Press on the transdermal system for 10 seconds so that it sticks firmly in place. Make sure there is good contact between the patch and your skin, especially at the edges.
- If the patch falls off while bathing or other activities, you can reapply it on another part of your lower abdomen. If you need to, you can also apply a new patch, but you should remove it at the scheduled time.
- Do not use more than one Combipatch transdermal system at any given time.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure to the area where Combipatch is applied.
- After the 3-4 days of the dosing regimen are over, remove the transdermal system carefully to avoid irritating your skin.
- If there is any adhesive residue on your skin, allow it to dry for 15 minutes and then remove it with an oil-based lotion or cream.
Missed dose: If you forget to wear or change a Combipatch, do it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time to use the next patch, skip the missed application and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply more than one patch at any given time or use an extra patch to make up for a missed application.
Storage: Store Combipatch in the refrigerator between 36-46°F or 2-8°C. Allow it to reach room temperature before application. Do not remove the Combipatch from the foil pouch until you are ready to apply it. Keep all medications away from moisture, heat, and direct light in their original container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.
Unused medicine: Unused or expired Combipatch should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to it. Do not throw Combipatch in the trash or flush medications down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded Combipatch is through your local waste disposal company or a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
