Combipatch Uses

Combipatch (estradiol-norethindrone acetate) is used to treat vasomotor symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes and night sweats. It is also used to treat symptoms of vaginal and vulvar atrophy, such as vaginal dryness, itching, and burning. In addition, Combipatch may be prescribed to women with hypoestrogenism (low estrogen levels due to the ovaries not working properly) caused by hypogonadism, castration, or primary ovarian failure.

There may be other uses of Combipatch—your healthcare professional can give you further drug information.

Combipatch Mechanism of Action

Falling levels of natural estrogens in the body are responsible for symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness in menopausal women. Combipatch helps to maintain estrogen levels in menopausal women and relieve these symptoms. The progestin component in Combipatch has a protective effect. It balances the effects of estrogen on the uterine lining and lowers the risk of endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterine lining).

Combipatch Doses

Combipatch (estradiol-norethindrone acetate) is available in two dosage strengths - 0.05/0.25 mg per day and 0.05/0.14 mg per day.

Your healthcare professional will prescribe the lowest effective dose for the shortest period of time. They will reevaluate you every 3-6 months to check whether you need to continue treatment.

There are two dosage regimens for Combipatch, either continuous combined regimen or continuous sequential regimen:

  • Continuous combined regimen: Combipatch (estradiol-norethindrone acetate) is applied once every 3-4 days (twice a week) for continuous uninterrupted hormone therapy during the entire 28-day cycle.
  • Continuous sequential regimen: Combipatch (estradiol-norethindrone acetate) is used in sequence with an estradiol-only transdermal system such as Vivelle-Dot (0.05 mg per day of estradiol). The estradiol-only patch is worn for the first 14 days and the Combipatch is worn for the remaining 14 days of the 28-day cycle.
