How should I take Cozaar (losartan)?

Take Cozaar as directed by your physician and/or pharmacist. This medicine comes as a tablet to be taken by mouth with water, once or twice a day as directed. You can take Cozaar with or without food.

Follow the directions on your prescription label for the correct Cozaar dosage and frequency. Take your medicine regularly at around the same time every day. Do not take more Cozaar or take it more frequently than prescribed. Do not stop taking Cozaar without talking to your doctor first.

Remember, Cozaar controls hypertension but does not cure it. So if you measure your blood pressure at home, you might find that the numbers decrease after about a week of Cozaar use. It can, however, take 3-6 weeks for you to notice the full benefit of the medicine. So continue taking Cozaar even if you feel well. 

Cozaar may be given to children 6 years of age and older. Talk to the pediatrician about any special care and precautions while using Cozaar in your child.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of Cozaar, take the medicine as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at your regular time. Do not take two doses of Cozaar together to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Cozaar at room temperature (between 15°-30° C or 59°-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all prescription drugs out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Throw away any unused Cozaar after the expiration date. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
