How To Use Diclofenac Potassium

Diclofenac potassium should be taken by mouth 1-4 times a day as prescribed. Read the prescription label and patient information leaflet carefully. Do not take a higher dose or take the medicine more frequently unless your doctor tells you to.

You should know that different diclofenac formulations cannot be used interchangeably even if they are equal in strength (equal dosage in milligrams). The body absorbs diclofenac potassium and diclofenac sodium differently. In addition, the various formulations are dosed differently, for example, the immediate-release tablets and extended-release tablets. Check with your healthcare professional before switching from one dosage form or dose to another.

People with reduced liver function or reduced renal clearance may need to take a lower dose of diclofenac potassium.

Do not mix the powder (Cambia) in any liquid except water (1-2 ounces, 2-4 tablespoons, or 30-60 mL). Take a single dose to treat a migraine attack.

Taking diclofenac potassium with food, milk, or prophylactic therapy with an antacid can help prevent an upset stomach. However, taking this medication with food can slow down its absorption and reduce its effectiveness.

Keep all your healthcare appointments during treatment with diclofenac potassium. Your doctor may recommend a dosage adjustment based on your response.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of diclofenac potassium, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store diclofenac potassium at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused diclofenac potassium should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw diclofenac potassium in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded diclofenac potassium is through a drug take-back program.
