How To Use Digoxin (Lanoxin)

Digoxin tablets, capsules, and elixir (liquid) are taken by mouth, usually once daily. The liquid comes with a dropper to measure the exact dose.

Read the prescription label and patient information leaflet carefully. Take the medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Do not change the dose or dosage frequency without your doctor’s approval. Do not take a different brand of digoxin without consulting your healthcare provider as it may contain a different amount of active drug.

Digoxin can help to treat your condition but will not cure it. Continue taking the medicine even if you feel well. Do not stop treatment without talking to your health care professional.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of digoxin, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store digoxin at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in the original container, tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused digoxin should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to it. Do not throw digoxin in the trash or flush it down the toilet.
