How To Use Dorzolamide

Dorzolamide is usually applied to the affected eye three times a day. Read the prescription label carefully and use dorzolamide exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not use a higher or lower dose or use this medicine more or less frequently than prescribed.

Dorzolamide can help to control glaucoma but it will not cure the condition. Continue using the medicine even if you don’t have any symptoms. Check with your doctor before stopping use of dorzolamide.

Before applying ophthalmic solutions such as dorzolamide, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the medicine. Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye or anything else. Tilt your head back and pull your lower eyelid down with your index finger to make a pocket. Squeeze one drop of the medicine into this pocket, gently close your eye, apply gentle pressure on the finger push area, and tilt your head down for a couple of minutes. Replace the dropper in the bottle. Do not rinse or wash the dropper. Wash your hands after using ophthalmic medications to remove any residual solution. Allow at least 10 minutes between instilling different eye drops.

Missed dose: If you forget to apply a dose of dorzolamide, do it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store dorzolamide at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom, where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets. You can continue to use dorzolamide for 28 days after opening a bottle or until the expiry date, whichever is earlier.

Unused medicine: Unused or expired dorzolamide should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw dorzolamide in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded dorzolamide is through your local waste disposal company or a drug take-back program.
