Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol (YASMIN) Side Effects
Possible side effects of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol are listed below. Tell your healthcare provider if these side effects are severe or do not go away in a few days.
- Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
- Headache
- Breast tenderness
- Nausea, vomiting
- Spotting or irregular menstrual cycles
- Weight gain
More serious side effects of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol are listed below. Call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical care if you experience:
- Skin rash, hives, itching, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (signs of an allergic reaction)
- Severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, fever (signs of gallbladder problems)
- Stomach pain, loss of appetite, light colored stools, dark urine, yellowing of skin or eyes, weakness, tiredness (signs of liver injury)
- Sudden numbness or weakness on one side of the body, trouble speaking, trouble walking, dizziness, confusion, vision changes (signs of a stroke)
- Leg pain, swelling, warmth, shortness of breath (signs of a blood clot)
- Depression
- Heavy menstrual bleeding or bleeding that lasts for more than 7 days

Drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol Overdose: In case of an overdose of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol, call your doctor immediately. You can also call the local poison control center or national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If a person cannot be awakened, has trouble breathing, has collapsed, or has had a seizure, call 911.
