How To Use Enalapril (Vasotec)

Enalapril comes in the form of a tablet to be taken by mouth with water. It also comes as an oral solution. Take your medicine 1-2 times a day as prescribed. You can take enalapril with or without food. Try to take your medicine at approximately the same time every day.

Follow the dosing instructions on your prescription label carefully and take enalapril as prescribed. Do not take a higher or lower dose or take it more or less often than advised by your doctor.

Your provider will likely start you on a low initial dose of the medicine and slowly increase the dose. Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions carefully. Enalapril can help to control your blood pressure, but it cannot cure your condition. Continue taking the medicine even if you don’t have any symptoms. Do not stop taking the medicine without consulting your healthcare provider.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of enalapril, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store enalapril at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused enalapril should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw enalapril in the trash or flush it down the toilet.
