Febuxostat (Uloric) Tips from Pharmacists
You can take febuxostat with or without food. Try to take your medication at around the same time every day.
It is common to experience an increase in gout flares when you first start taking febuxostat. Continue taking the medicine if this happens. Your doctor will prescribe medication (NSAIDs or colchicine) for symptom control during this time.
Febuxostat can lower uric acid levels and treat gout but does not cure the condition. Continue treatment even if you don’t have gout attacks.
Keep all your medical and laboratory appointments. Your doctor may increase your dose from 40 mg to 80 mg daily if you continue to have high serum uric acid levels after two weeks on febuxostat.
