How should I take Flagyl?

Take the medication exactly as prescribed. Flagyl (metronidazole) comes as a tablet, extended-release tablet, and capsule to be taken by mouth. Swallow the medication with a glass of water. 

Take metronidazole extended-release tablets (Flagyl ER) once daily away from meals (1 hour before or 2 hours after eating). You should swallow the extended-release tablets whole - do not crush, chew, or break them.

Follow the instructions from your doctor and the prescription label carefully. Take Flagyl exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of this medicine or for a duration other than prescribed by your doctor.

It is important to finish the prescribed course of treatment with antibiotics. Continue taking Flagyl (metronidazole) even if you start to feel better. Stopping the medication before you finish the course or skipping doses could cause your infection to be incompletely treated. The bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics over time, making it difficult to treat infections in the future.

Missed dose: If you forget to take Flagyl (metronidazole), take the medicine as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose as scheduled. Do not double up on doses to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Flagyl (metronidazole) in the container it came in, tightly closed and away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Keep all over-the-counter and prescription drugs out of reach of children and pets.
