Fluocinonide Side Effects

Possible side effects of topical fluocinonide are listed below. Tell your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away in a few days after your body adjusts to the medicine.

  • Temporary redness, dryness, cracking, burning, stinging, irritation, or itching
  • Shiny skin
  • Bruising
  • Acne
  • Changes in skin color
  • Tiny red bumps near the mouth
  • Small white or red bumps on the skin

Some of the side effects of topical fluocinonide can be more serious. Call your doctor without delay or seek immediate medical attention if you develop:

  • A severe skin rash
  • Signs of a skin infection in the treated area, such as redness, swelling, or pus (oozing) 
  • Changes in body fat distribution or roundness of the face (moon face)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Unusual tiredness
  • Sudden weight gain
  • Mood changes or depression

The above list may not include all the potential side effects of fluocinonide. Contact your healthcare provider if your side effects are unusual or severe or do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Fluocinonide Overdose: In case someone swallows fluocinonide topical products, call your doctor immediately. You can also call your local poison control center, provincial poison control center, or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Call 911 or emergency services if a person has collapsed, cannot breathe, has had a seizure, or cannot be awakened.
