How To Use Fosfomycin Tromethamine (Monurol)

Fosfomycin tromethamine granules should be mixed with water and taken by mouth. You can take the medicine with or without food. Empty the entire contents of a Monurol sachet into 3-4 ounces or 90-120 mL (half glass) of cool or cold water, dissolve, and consume the mixture immediately. Do not use warm or hot water. Do not swallow the granules dry. Do not store the mixture of the granules and water for later use.

Read the prescription label and patient information leaflet carefully. Take the medicine exactly as prescribed. Do not repeat the dose unless your doctor tells you.

If your urinary tract infection symptoms do not get better after 3 days of taking the single dose of fosfomycin tromethamine, tell your doctor. If your urine culture shows continued presence of bacteria, your healthcare professional may prescribe some other antibiotic.

Missed dose: Fosfomycin tromethamine is a single-dose treatment. Tell your doctor if you do not take the medicine.

Storage: Store fosfomycin tromethamine at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in its original container, tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused fosfomycin tromethamine should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw fosfomycin tromethamine in the trash or flush medications down the toilet.
