Fosfomycin Tromethamine (Monurol) Uses

Fosfomycin tromethamine is used to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections and acute cystitis (bladder infections) in women caused by susceptible strains of Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis bacteria. This antibacterial agent is not indicated for the treatment of pyelonephritis (inflammation of the kidneys) or perinephric abscess (a collection of pus in the tissue surrounding the kidney). Fosfomycin tromethamine is not FDA approved for use in men. However, it is sometimes used off-label to treat infections of the prostate gland in men.

There may be other uses of fosfomycin tromethamine—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.
