Gemfibrozil Uses

Gemfibrozil therapy is used to reduce elevated triglycerides and elevated LDL (bad) cholesterol) in the blood as well as increase HDL (good) cholesterol levels.

Gemfibrozil Mechanism of Action

Gemfibrozil affects lipid metabolism. Specifically, it inhibits hepatic triglyceride production (formation of triglycerides in the liver from free fatty acids).

Gemfibrozil Doses

Gemfibrozil is available as a 600-mg tablet. It is usually taken one tablet twice a day, 30 minutes before the morning and evening meals.
