Icosapent Ethyl Side Effects

Possible side effects of icosapent ethyl are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice if these side effects are severe or do not go away in a few days.

  • Constipation
  • Muscle pain 
  • Joint pain
  • Swelling in the lower legs, ankles, or feet

Rarely, icosapent ethyl can cause more serious adverse effects. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical help if you experience the following symptoms:

  • Skin rash, hives, itching
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, dizziness, chest discomfort, fainting
  • Pain, redness, swelling in the joints, especially the big toe

Icosapent ethyl (Vascepa) Overdose: In case of an overdose of icosapent ethyl, call your doctor immediately. You can also call the National Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. Call 911 if a person has collapsed, cannot be awakened, has trouble breathing, or has had a seizure.
