How To Use Icosapent Ethyl (Vascepa)

Icosapent ethyl capsules are liquid-filled gel capsules taken by mouth twice a day with food. Try to take your medicine around the same times every day. Swallow the capsules whole. Do not cut, crush, chew, or dissolve them.

Read the prescription label carefully and take your medicine exactly as prescribed. Do not change the dose or dosing frequency without your doctor’s advice.

Follow your healthcare provider’s guidelines for a low-fat, low-cholesterol meal plan and regular exercise. Your provider may refer you to a nutritionist who can advise you on food sources of healthy fats and essential nutrients.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of icosapent ethyl, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra medicine or a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Storage: Store icosapent ethyl at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused icosapent ethyl should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw icosapent ethyl in the trash or flush it down the toilet.
