Indomethacin Tips from Pharmacists

  • Indomethacin can cause side effects like nausea and upset stomach. Taking the medicine with food can help to minimize these adverse effects.

  • You should swallow indomethacin capsules whole. Do not crush, chew, or split them.

  • Shake the bottle of indomethacin oral suspension well before use. Measure the liquid medicine using a dose-measuring cup and not a household spoon.

  • Taking indomethacin with aspirin or another nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug can increase the risk of serious stomach bleeding. Talk to your doctor about alternatives if you take aspirin on a daily basis.

  • If you are allergic to aspirin, you could have an allergic reaction to indomethacin as well. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have an NSAID allergy.
